What does a private Yoga Therapy session entail?
Each session is 60 minutes long. An in-take will take part in the first session and the focus and goals will be determined. Each session will include customized SomaYoga movements/sequences, which combine somatic movements with traditional Yoga asanas (poses). Somatics is “…a highly effective form of neuromuscular retraining that alleviates chronic pain and improves physical functioning and mobility for clients.”
Here is a great study showcasing “significant reductions in the mean low back, neck, and low back + neck pain values between the first and the last visits. In the 6 months before and after the intervention, the number of patients using pain medication decreased from 53 (53.5%) to 14 (13.6%), respectively, and the mean number of doctor visits reduced significantly from 2 (±1.6) to 0.5 (±1.16) respectively.”
Along with moving, specific breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques may be incorporated.
While even one session can be beneficial, it is recommended to explore weekly sessions over 1-2 months.
